Thankful for the Little Things

Every year I ask that my children express what they are thankful for on Thanksgiving.  Of course, we are all forever thankful for our families and friends, our health and the world around us.  As I ran around town yesterday and today gathering all things needed for tomorrow, I noticed all of the little things around me that I was thankful for.

I am thankful for..

*The plate of brownies passed through my car window as I dropped off paperwork at a friend’s house.

*The extra sleep I had this morning.  Yes, I got up at 7am, but 5am is the norm around here.

*The morning chat I had with my friend, Sandy.  Nothing like a good cup of coffee and a giggle.

*The glorious sunshine of this day.  The grey skies yesterday were so gloomy, but made me appreciate today’s sunshine that much more.

*The Orland Park police officers who direct traffic at the busy shopping areas in town.

*My children for not only behaving at the store but for helping me gather everything on my list as well.

*The cashier at Wal-Mart who tapped me on my shoulder as she saw me searching for the shortest line and whispered that she was about to open her register in the next lane.

*The unexpected hug I received in the parking lot from a child I had helped learn to read years ago through a program at school.  She introduced me to her grandfather as “the mom from school who made me love books.”  Gulp.

*My 11 year old son who put most of the groceries away while I was preparing lunch.

*The phone call from my sister asking for my mom’s pie recipe.  It is nice to feel needed.

*The giggles coming from the back of the house at this very moment.

*The 15 minutes of rest while I wrote this post.

Have a wonderful Thanksgiving along with all the the people/things you are thankful for!

I was actually thankful for my husband and his wonderful cooking, because I cannot boil water, for my children agreeing to see Twilight (Again) with me, for them not fighting “most of the day”, for the mini-visit with my gramdma and for “Thanksgiving Pants” when I got home. The Hubby cooks for an army, even thought it was just the 5 of us for dinner.

LOL Orland park directing traffic. They might as well just stay home and not collect their overtime pay since the traffic lights are doing their jobs for them!

    • Yes, the traffic lights are quite useful, however, the police officers make sure that the high traffic areas are given extra time to move, making traveling around Orland Park around this time of year bearable. Living very close to the mall, I cannot express how thankful I am that they endure the low temps and long hours to make my day go just a bit better, yes, even if they are earning over time pay.
