Eggcellent Tip!

I saw this today and immediately thought of the thousands of times I used the “side to side with the yolk in the shells” technique in my kitchen.  No translation is needed here even though it is in Chinese.   Continue reading

Welcome Back School, I’ve Missed You…

Raise your coffee mugs…..It’s almost here ladies, one more day, we’ve come so far, you can do it!!

Welcome back silent morning coffee time, welcome back sanity.  Welcome back being able to go to the grocery store and actually get only what I need.  Welcome back to the house being clean for more than a 1/2  hour at a time.  Welcome back morning walks, breakfast with the ladies and the freedom to make plans that do not include being the personal assistant/chauffeur/chef to my kids, at least for a portion of the day. City Lights Orchestra to Perform Tonight!

Wondering what to do with the family tonight? How about a free concert right here in Orland Park? My family attended last year and really had a wonderful time. I think this is one of my favorite new events that Orland Park has added to the already impressive offering of events for its residents.

From the Village of Orland Park website:

The Village of Orland Park will host a free concert on Sunday, July 1st featuring The City Lights Orchestra performing from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m.

Bring the family, a blanket, lawn chairs and a picnic to enjoy the village’s concert at Centennial Park West.

Centennial Park West is located at Park Station Boulevard and Somerglen Lane, in the Colette Highlands Subdivision near 159th Street and 108th Avenue.

Cooper’s Hawk Winery and Restaurant will be on site offering wine and light appetizers for purchase.

Hope to see you there!

Yoga and Chocolate Martinis

I took a yoga class at the gym last night. It sounded good when proposed, “Hey, why don’t you come and take a poolside yoga class tonight” she said. I hesitated, then another friend added “We can have chocolate martinis at my house afterwards.” Damn!!! She got me with the power of the martini!! Continue reading

Happy Mother’s Day to all of the moms in Orland Park and all over the world! I was fully intending to write a new post today and then read my post from last year that fully and completely explains how I feel today, so, no need. Happy Mothers Day!!

I know I am supposed to smile appreciatively as I receive all of the “Happy Mother’s Day!” greetings this weekend, and I do.  Don’t get me wrong, I love being a Mommy and nothing in the world means more to me than being a Mom to my kids.  This time of year is always bittersweet for me because it makes me miss my own Mom.  I start to think of how my life and the lives of my children would be if she were still here.

Another child is on their way to Robert Crown this week, going to love the questions that follow….This time last year….

Yesterday, my son had the awkward experience of attending the Robert Crown Center for Health Education.  All kids in the 5th grade that attend public school here in Orland Park go unless you specifically request that they do not.  My eldest son went last year and came home completely disgusted and declared that “girls are gross!” and he didn’t want to discuss ANYTHING about it.  Yes, honey, keep thinking girls are gross.  Very, very gross.  Stay far, far away.

A Letter of Gratitude To My Fellow Moms…

Dear Fellow Moms,

Thank you for being there for me.  As a mom, you support me when I need it the most.  A small gesture that may seem miniscule in nature to you very well may have made the difference between a great day and a horrible failure of one.  You understand the pressures we face and, in turn, you strive to alleviate those in any way possible.  Continue reading

School Board Member Earns Accolades for District 135

You may recall hearing about a CPR/AED program offered to students at our local junior high schools.  Well, thanks to the efforts of school board member Lynne Donegan to include the training as part of the curriculum, the Illinois House of representatives issued a congratulatory house resolution (HR0856) to the faculty, staff, and students of Orland School District 135 for their innovative initiatives regarding student CPR/AED/First Aid training. You Can’t Please Everyone

Let me start by saying that I feel that generally, I am liked by most around me.  I try not to give anyone reason not to like me, but that does not stop the fact that some people are not raving fans. Continue reading
