Lowdown on the TTT (Text Talk Translation)

So you happen across your kid’s cell phone and happen to browse through the text messages sent and received.  You think you are all slick until, what the…… It is written in some sort of alien code that you are not able to comprehend.   Now, I am not so in the dark that I do not get the obvious things like LOL, smh and brb, but some of these texts are completely confusing.

To Botox, or not to Botox…

Last night I finally got around to watching the season finale of Real Housewives of Miami.  Since I realized early on that the content of the show was not interesting enough to keep my attention fully, I have started a little private game in my head to keep things interesting.  I watch, hope, and pray for little moments of facial expression and when one comes along I giggle and keep count.  Silly, I know, but fun as hell.  A random eyebrow raising is apparent periodically in the one who crashed the gala and didn’t pay until forced.  I think her Botox is either wearing off or minimal and I think her name is Christy, but I could be wrong.  The art dealer girl can sometimes muster a smirk or two as well.  But the older blonde could not crinkle her forehead if you offered her billions.  My all-time favorite is Elsa, psychic mother of the newlywed one, who can barely talk because of all of her Botox and plastic surgery.  Don’t get me wrong, she is my FAVORITE character because without her random musings the show would be too boring to watch, but still she cannot move a facial muscle to save her life.

Farewell to Elizabeth Taylor

The Hollywood Legend died today at the age of 79.

This video made me smile while remembering this beautiful and gifted actress.  It is from her November 1954 appearance on the program “What’s My Line?”.

And another from “A Place in the Sun” 1951

Here is one more from “A Cat On A Hot Tin Roof” 1958

One More Thing To Feel Guilty About

No one tells you this before you become a parent, but one of the instant new bonuses is the intense feeling of guilt.  The first time I realized this was when the nurse at the hospital asked me if I would like her to take my newborn son to the nursery so that I could take a nap.  After all, I had been up all night and my husband was snoring away on the recliner.  “YES, please!” I responded with great gratitude.  Then it hit me.  The guilt.  Did I just send my precious baby off to God knows where with a woman who I JUST MET yesterday not knowing WHAT could happen!?!?!?

Thrills of Frugality via the Internet

You know that feeling, that rush you get when you get a really great deal on something?  Well I believe I have an addiction to that.  The feeling, that is.

Now, I am not one of those “super-couponers” who have well-organized coupon organizers and 5 Sunday papers delivered to their door.  I am not that disciplined.  I have to admit that I am envious of the Facebook pictures that feature 25 boxes of Cheerios, a dozen bottles of juice and 5 bulk packs of toilet paper for a mere $2.32.  That just amazes me.  Not envious enough to put all of those hours into all of that organization though.

Jealous Much?

My daughter came home from school upset one day last week because a little girl was ignoring her.  This girl, who has been her friend since Pre-K, just suddenly decided that she no longer wanted to observe my daughter’s existence.  Continue reading

It Aint Easy Being Mom, Or Is It?

So I have recently returned home after four days away.  I fully expected to find a house turned upside down, kids still in the same clothes as the ones I left them in and several notes from teachers about missing assignments.  Instead, I walk through the door (with one eye closed to guard me from the expected horror of it all) to find that not only is the house NOT a mess, but in better shape than it had been left.  Continue reading

Packing, Pedicures and Panic…Oh My!

So tomorrow I will embark on one of my very few and far between trips away on my own.  I found my suitcase, still under my bed from the last trip, and fully intended to get things packed and ready a few days ago.  All that exists today to prove that I even thought about packing is a pile of things that I MAY want to take that happened to be in the laundry I put away yesterday.  Sure, I know what I need to take, but where the hell are those things anyway?  So as I leave my house at 4am tomorrow to catch my flight at Midway, I will have a suitcase with some things in it, but who the hell knows what those things will be.  Maybe the pile o’ laundry that is perched next to it.  Continue reading

Should I Stay or Should I go Now?

So, come this Fall, all of my children will be in school full-time.  For the first time in oh so many years, my day will be free of children.  Well, at least until 2:30pm.  I have been dreaming of this time in my life for years and now that it is finally approaching, well, I am TERRIFIED.   Continue reading

Pass the F-ing Potatoes

I have been known to drop the F-bomb pretty frequently among other colorful words in my vocabulary and it has always been a rule in my house that only the adults are allowed to swear.  Lately, however, as my children are getting older the rule has been infringed upon quite a lot.  I will allow the occasional “Oh, Shit!” if the situation warrants the exclamation.  For example, an extremely painful toe stub, milk spilled on an essay that you just finished writing, etc..  I know all of the so-called “perfect moms” out there will disagree and deem this unacceptable, but this is my house, therefore, my rules.
